Rotary Club of Blandford Stour

Santa Fun Run and Walk 2018

     Information

What is a Santa Fun Run? First of all, it is not a race. This is a Fun Run. You can run, jog or walk it. It is open to any age and ability, individual, family or group, you decide. As part of the event, the entry fee includes a Santa Suit with a hat for you to wear on the run.  For health & safety reasons, no bicycles, skateboards or roller blades will be allowed on the run.

What is the aim of the Fun Run?  There are two aims. The first is to add a bit of fun to the beginning of the Christmas period in Blandford. The second is to raise funds for charity.

How fit do I have to be?  This is very much a fun run and the majority of people entering will not be serious runners. The event is all about taking part, so whether you run, jog or walk or even crawl, we really don’t mind. You can do as much or as little of the route as you like.

What does it cost?  The entry fee is £5 and £2.50 for children under 8 years.  Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times on the course.  The entry fee covers the running costs, the Santa Suit and a commemorative medal. We regret that we cannot refund your registration fee once you have paid.

Payment  There are 3 ways to pay:

Online.  E-mail your registration form to blandfordsantafunrun@outlook.com saying you wish to pay online.  You will then receive by e-mail our bank details  and your registration will be completed when we receive your payment.

Cheque.  Please send a cheque with your registration form.

Cash.  You can pay cash or by cheque if registering on the day.

How much should I raise in sponsorship?  We hope that each entrant will raise as much as possible by obtaining sponsors. This year donations will go to Julia's House however you are free to nominate a charity of your choice. We ask that all monies raised are paid in no later than 31st January 2018. A sponsorship form and gift aid form can be found on the menu bar and printed off.

What is the route and how difficult is it? The route starts at the beginning of the Trailway at Station Court, DT11 7RJ, and it extends for 4 kms to a turn around point making a total distance of 8 kms  (5 miles) back to the start. You will be free to make your own way, at your own pace with the more serious runners setting off first. There will be stewards at key points to guide you and markers at the kilometre points. The route is easy going and suitable for all abilities.

When should I enter?  The sooner, the better. Registration is now open and you can register by printing off a registration form from the navigation bar above.

Can I enter on the day?  Yes, we will accept registrations on the day. Make sure you arrive in good time. We do hope you will register beforehand as that will guarantee you a suit.

What happens if I am ill or just can't make it on the day? If you are ill, please do not attempt to come.  Your health and well-being comes first. We regret however that there can be no refunds for non-attendance.  We do recommend that you complete a “Medical record” form where you can record your medical details and the person to contact in case of any emergencies. Please carry this with you during the event.

A number of us want to run together, can we make one payment to cover us all? Yes, just send the forms in together with one payment to cover everyone. You may like to take part displaying your group or company logo or your name on your Santa suits - it's free advertising!

Can I bring a pushchair or buggy?  Yes, but we would ask that you start at the back and are aware of and are considerate to other participants along the way.

What about dogs? You are welcome to bring dogs but please make sure they are on a lead.

When do I get my Santa suit?  So that you can arrive for the event wearing your Santa suit we will be distributing them beforehand at the address on the registration form on the following dates/times:

Sunday 2 December 10am to 2pm and Monday 3 December 5-7pm.  You can pay for your suits when you collect them.

Do I have to sign-in when I arrive? Yes. For health and safety reasons, we need to know who is taking part, so it is vital that you sign in on arrival.

Can I park at the venue? Car parking facilities will be available in all the
recognised car parks in Blandford. Please remember to secure your car before you leave for the run.

What time should I arrive at the venue? Registration on the day will open at 9.30 am for a start at 10.00 am.  All entrants must book in at the registration desk.

Will the results be published? The Santa run/walk is not a competitive event, the aim is to enjoy the company and have fun so, apart from announcing the amount raised in the local press, we will not be publishing individual results nor indeed PB times. A report of the event complete with photographs will be published in the local press, the website and our Facebook page.
